NATIONAL’s Michael Goehring, Vice-President, Public Affairs and his team went straight to work to outline the impacts of yesterday’s budget.
As stated in a special NATIONAL Public Affairs Update, BC Liberal Finance Minister Mike de Jong tabled Balanced Budget 2014 yesterday, which projects a surplus of $184 million for the coming fiscal year with larger surpluses forecast in the following two years. As one of only two Canadian provinces with a balanced budget, the government’s fiscal discipline allows for new funding of $350 million over three years in priority areas targeted towards social programs and community safety, along with $65 million for environmental and economic development initiatives.
The Budget 2014 also offered the initial details of a competitive tax policy for BC’s emerging liquefied natural gas industry, a key priority of Premier Clark’s BC Liberal government.
