After Federal Finance Minister Jim Flaherty tabled the 2013 budget yesterday afternoon, NATIONAL didn’t waste any time in analyzing the budget from cover to cover. Chris Froggatt, Managing Partner worked with Ottawa office colleagues Joel Baglole, Senior Consultant and Matt Triemstra, Consultant and with Toronto’s Richard Mahoney, Vice-President, Government Relations to provide a complete summary highlighting the priorities of Budget 2013.
Billed as Economic Action Plan 2013, the Harper government’s budget is, as expected, a restrained budget that continues the trend of taking a targeted approach to government spending with a focus on financial austerity in the face of continued global economic uncertainty.
The document focuses on three key areas: skills training, with a national skills training strategy as its centrepiece called the Canada Job Grant; infrastructure; and support for Canada’s struggling manufacturing sector.
